Making the most out of KiwiSaver
KiwiSaver suits all ages and savers at different stages of life.
KiwiSaver has a range of membership benefits including contributions from employers, the Government's Tax Credits as well as helping members buying their first homes.
|| New members joining KiwiSaver after 21 May 2015 have missed out on the $1,000 tax-free Government Kick Start contribution; however we still encourage everyone who is eligible to join KiwiSaver to do so. We believe the benefits of belonging to KiwiSaver; make it attractive for all ages to seriously consider joining.
Choosing an Investment Fund
No matter which KiwiSaver provider you opt to join, there are generally three investment funds to choose from when joining:
- A Growth Fund, with higher volatility
- A Balanced fund, with medium volatility
- A Conservative fund, with lower volatility
Members Tax Credits
Are you maximising the annual Government contribution? As long as you deposit the minimum of $1,042 in the 12 months leading up to the 30th June, you are currently entitled to a Government contribution of $521 pa
After 3 years of contributing to KiwiSaver, you may be entitled to a KiwiSaver Homestart grant. The grants are administered by Housing New Zealand and the grant is paid to your solicitor to assist with settlement of house purchase.
You become eligible to withdraw funds from KiwiSaver when you qualify for NZ Superannuation (currently 65), and as long as you have been a KiwiSaver member for the minimum of 5 years. Members nearing retirement have options that they may choose.
